Arhat Pindolabharadvaja is one of the four personal disciples of Buddha and is rank first in the eighteen arhats. Originally, has was one of the Brahma nobles. Although he has received the rank of arhat, he was ordered by Buddha to stay in the material world to serve people.
Made of fine Hotan nephrite with apple green tone, this artifact is carved with extraordinary fine workmanship. Every detail is done by great effort. The muscles and bones are shown vividly. Holding a bat in front of the eyebrows, the artifact carries the meaning of auspicious thing is eminent. It was owned by Mr. Mei who held important positions both in the Nanjing government and the Kou Ming Tung party in the early period of the Republic of China.
